National Palliative and Hospice Care Summit 2024: Convening for Compassion.
In 1989, the hospice concept was first introduced in the Philippines, planting the seeds for what has become a thriving movement. Over two decades ago, the National Hospice and Palliative Care Council of the Philippines (Hospice Philippines) was established to advance Supportive, Palliative, and Hospice care. Back then, the community consisted of just ten organizations and a small group of dedicated professionals and volunteers. Today, we celebrate the remarkable growth of this movement at the 2024 National Summit. This event honors the unwavering commitment of those who laid the foundation and nurtured it into the robust community it is today. The summit, organized by Hospice Philippines, the Philippine Society of Palliative and Hospice Care, and the Philippine Cancer Society, features three key events: a Post-Graduate Course for Advocates, Providers, and Leaders, a Stakeholders Meeting and Fellowship, and a Master Trainers Workshop. The Summit not only showcases the progress made over the past 35 years but also serves as a springboard for future growth in national capacity and program development. With the support of the Department of Health, non-government organizations, and international partnerships, we look forward to the next chapter in caring for those facing severe health-related suffering in our country. The National Summit is an invitation to all to join this movement of Convening for Compassion.
